Surf Report - Great Wolf Lodge

Primary swell 1.2 feet @ 4 seconds from ENE, directly across from the Hot-Dog-on-a-Stick.
Tide even, no wind. Actually no sun, either. Conditions were... fair. Not the best spot in the world but there were some mushy little waves. Barely surfable to be honest–I didn't even bring a board.
Tried bodysurfing the north wall, hoping it'd peak up with a little sandbar or something, but hard-packed bottom wasn't holding any form, really. Waves wouldn't break until it hit four inches of depth, then all closed out hard. Consistent though, but weirdly completely turned off every five minutes before starting up again.
When I could really time it right, I'd get a little push for about ten feet, but the crowd was so thick I had to be careful–even pull up completely a couple times to avoid a wall of toddlers.
Vibe was pretty chill though, everyone seemed to be having fun. Water was nice and warm (almost suspiciously warm in some places). But it was a bit kooky, couple of times some little punk would snake my ride without even knowing it. Or I'd have miss a ride to go check on my kiddos who were floating out past the break. They had life jackets on, plus there were life guards (whistling at them to stop fighting each other, so I felt confident someone had a good eye on them).
If I had an extra-foamy Wavestorm, I'd probably be able get up and maybe get one turn in, but honestly, it was just fun to be in the water. I guess I could have been disappointed, since I thought wave pool technology was a lot more advanced these days. I sort of felt like I was lucky just to get any sort of waves here, until I saw the final bill. I could have afforded five minutes at Slater's Surf Ranch when we added on the breakfast buffet for all of us.
If I were gonna do it all again, I'd go dawn patrol with a 9' or 10' log, give off loco vibes to keep the crowd density in front of me light, and start drinking a little earlier.
All in all, I've surfed worse though.
